Being Tea Co uses two kinds of images, and labels which is which on every page.
Reference photographs
Real photographs of real plants, sourced from Wikimedia Commons and other open-licence archives, used where seeing the actual organism matters. Every one carries the photographer, the licence, and a link to the original file, both in its caption and in the table below. Where a licence requires share-alike terms, those terms carry to our cropped versions.
A reference photograph is still not an identification tool. Plants that look alike in photographs are routinely different species, and some lookalikes are dangerous. Never eat, brew, or apply a wild plant identified from a photograph, an app, a common name, or this website. See our herbal safety page.
How we choose and check them
- The species in the photograph must match the species the page is about — not merely share a common name.
- Photographer, licence, and species are confirmed on the source file page before use.
- Every image is looked at by a human before it goes live, and the caption describes what the photograph actually shows.
- Where a photograph shows the plant but not the specific part discussed, the caption says so.
Editorial images
Some images on this site are AI-generated editorial illustrations. They set a mood or illustrate a process; they do not document a specific tea, garden, maker, harvest, or plant. Each is captioned Editorial image—not a plant-identification reference. Our full policy is on the disclosures page.
