Before You Forage
This guide offers seasonal research leads—not positive identification, permission, or a declaration that a plant is safe for you.
Being Tea Co provides education, not medical advice, treatment, or positive plant identification. Natural does not mean risk-free. Never ingest a wild plant or fungus from a photograph, app result, common name, or this website alone.
Herbs can cause allergic reactions and interact with medicines. Pregnancy, breastfeeding, childhood, surgery, seizure history, kidney or liver conditions, and other health factors can change what is appropriate. Ask a qualified clinician or pharmacist about your own situation.
Continue only when every gate can be answered
- I will use current regional references and, where meaningful risk exists, a qualified local teacher.
- I understand that an image, app, AI result, or common name cannot establish edibility.
- I will verify at least three positive traits and rule out the named dangerous or confusing lookalikes.
- I will confirm permission and current rules for the exact parcel; public land is not automatically harvestable.
- I will avoid roadsides, railways, sprayed ground, pet areas, polluted water, industrial sites, contaminated burns, and uncertain soil.
- I will leave rare, sparse, protected, stressed, or culturally sensitive populations untouched.
- I will review pregnancy, breastfeeding, childhood, allergy, surgery, medicines, and health conditions.
- When uncertain, I will leave the organism where it grows.
Choose the season that matches local plant activity, not only the calendar. Latitude, elevation, weather, and microclimate can shift a harvest window by weeks or months.
