A Tea & Conversation Deck from Being Tea Co.
Funny enough for the first cup. Honest enough for the fifth.
What if a conversation deck paid attention to the tea?
Between Steeps is the working title for a deck that follows the natural rhythm of a tea session: loosen the room, notice the cup, trade stories, make space for reflection, and close without rushing the last pour.
There is no score, no drinking penalty, and no pressure to disclose more than you want. Play with tea, decaffeinated tea, a caffeine-free botanical infusion, water, or no drink at all.
Coming soon for playtesting. Joining the list is not a purchase, pre-order, reservation, or guarantee of a playtest place.

A deck built around the tea session
Tea changes from pour to pour. A good conversation does too.
The current editorial bank contains 72 original draft prompts. A balanced 54-card Founder’s Playtest deck has now been selected: some cards are absurd, some teach sensory attention, and others invite a story or a question worth sitting with. Real playtesting will decide what deserves to stay, what needs rewriting, and what should be cut before any physical edition is considered.
Five ways into the conversation
Warm the Pot
Funny, low-stakes prompts that help the table stop performing and start playing.
If this tea had a dating profile, what would its most suspicious brag be?
Taste the Cup
Notice aroma, color, texture, temperature, finish, and how an infusion changes. There are no “correct” tasting words.
Wait ten seconds after swallowing. What stayed, moved, or disappeared?
Share the Table
Stories about friendship, hospitality, ritual, identity, and the small moments people rarely think to ask about.
When has someone made room for you without trying to fix you?
Deep Steep
Optional philosophical and reflective questions welcoming religious, spiritual, agnostic, and secular perspectives alike.
Is meaning something we discover, something we make, or something we receive?
Pour Again
Small actions that change the pace: inspect the leaf, add water, sit in quiet, revisit an answer, or close with gratitude.
Give the next pour thirty seconds with no talking. Notice what the room and cup are doing.
How a session unfolds
- Set the table. Bring a tea that can open across several infusions—or choose decaf, a caffeine-free botanical infusion, water, or no drink.
- Warm the room. Begin with one low-stakes Warm the Pot prompt per person.
- Notice the cup. Use Taste the Cup to pay attention without turning tasting into a test.
- Share when ready. Move into stories only when the table wants to.
- Steep deeper—or don’t. Deep Steep is always optional. Keeping the session light is a complete way to play.
- Make the last pour. End with a reset, a quiet moment, or gratitude rather than a forced revelation.
Founder’s Playtest format: 54 cards · 2–8 adults · approximately 30–90 minutes · no competition
The table rules
- Passing requires no explanation.
- Listening counts as participation.
- A follow-up question is an invitation, not a cross-examination.
- No one has to drink, finish a cup, match another person’s pace, or consume a required amount.
- No chugging, speed rounds, drinking penalties, caffeine challenges, or alcohol pairing.
- Any player may keep the session light or end a line of conversation.
What playtesters will help answer
We are looking for honest feedback, not polite approval. Playtesters may be invited to report which prompts opened real conversation, which sensory cards helped them notice the tea, which cards felt unclear or too personal, and whether they would bring the deck to another table.
Opportunities may be limited. The format, expectations, location, materials, and any tester thank-you will be explained before anyone agrees to participate. Joining the list does not guarantee an invitation or a free product.

Frequently asked questions
Can I buy or pre-order the deck now?
No. No orders, pre-orders, reservations, or payments are open. The deck is still in development, and no launch date is promised.
Is Between Steeps the final name?
Not yet. Between Steeps is the working title for the Founder’s Playtest. The final name and format may change.
Is this a drinking game?
No. There are no drinking penalties, required pours, speed rounds, or challenges to consume anything. The Founder’s Playtest is alcohol-free.
Do I have to drink tea or caffeine?
No. Tea, decaffeinated tea, a caffeine-free botanical infusion, water, or no drink are all welcome. The conversation is the activity; the cup is an invitation to pay attention.
Do I have to answer every question?
No. Passing requires no explanation. Listening is participation, and Deep Steep questions are always optional.
Is this a religious or Buddhist deck?
No. The reflective prompts welcome religious, spiritual, agnostic, and secular perspectives. Being Tea Co. is independent and does not represent a monastery, Buddhist lineage, or religious organization.
Help shape what makes the final cut
The final cards will be chosen at real tables, across real steeps, with honest notes from the people who played them.
Between Steeps is a working title for a Being Tea Co. concept in the Founder’s Playtest stage. Name, wording, card count, design, price, manufacturing, availability, and timing may change. Concept imagery shows a proposed visual direction, not finished retail packaging.
